WHITBY WARRIORS 6
The Six Nations Arrows Express forced a 7th game in Whitby on Saturday night (Aug 21/04) to decide the Ontario Jr. A championship as they defeated the Warriors 7 – 6 before a full house at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena. The win sees the Arrows Express finish the 2004 season with a perfect home record of 13 wins and 0 losses after their move into the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena. The 13th victory was by far the most meaningful game of the season at home as the Arrows Express were facing elimination. The cheers were deafening as the largest crowd of the season celebrated the thrilling come from behind victory.
Grant Crawley replaced starting goalie Ben VanEvery at the start of the 3rd period and he shut-out the Whitby Warriors in the final period. The Arrows Express trailed throughout the game and gave up two goals late in the 2nd period to trail 6 – 3 going into the 3rd period. The Arrows scored 2 goals 8 seconds apart to pull within one at 6 – 5 at the 4:33 mark and tied it on a backhand goal by Ben Powless at the 8:11 mark. The Six Nations Arrows Express will be facing elimination tonight after going down in defeat by a score of 7 – 3 in Game #5 to the Whitby Warriors in Whitby. The Arrows Express will have to extend their unbeaten home record to “lucky number” 13 in a row at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena tonight @ 8 PM in order to force Game #7 in Whitby on Saturday night. The Arrows Express were supported by 8 bus-loads of fans dressed in orange and carrying signs but it proved not to be enough to rally the team to victory.
Once again, special teams were a factor as Whitby scored 3 power-play goals on eight chances while the Arrows Express were held scoreless on the same number of power-play opportunities. As has been the case for this entire series the Arrows Express could not get their offense on track managing only one goal a period on the night. Whitby led 2 – 1 after the 1st period and 3 – 2 at the end of the 2nd period. The Arrows Express got a power-play chance in the first minute of the 3rd period but could not capitalize. The eight busloads of Arrows fans came away from Whitby disappointed but will be out in force tonight to cheer the Arrows Express onto their 13th straight victory at home in Game #6.

The Six Nations Arrows Express evened up this best of 7 final series at two games apiece in a “must win game” as they defeated the Whitby Warriors by a score of 6 – 4 for their 12th win in a row at home. The win guarantees another home game for the Arrows Express on Wednesday night @ 8 PM. Once again the two teams played a very even game with the score tied 1 – 1 at the end of the 1st period and 3 – 3 at the end of the 2nd period. With the Arrows Express offense not producing as they would like, Coach Chrysler changed up the power-play and some offensive lines and it did work as Aug-ka Elijah scored a power-play goal in the 1st period. Aug-ka ended up with two goals and one assist on the night and another usual defensive player Nathan Gilchrist had 1 goal and 2 assists as they led the Arrows Express attack on this night.
Stew Monture scored what proved to be game winner on a power-play in the 3rd period. This was the Arrows Express second power-play goal of the game and they did not allow a short-handed goal in the game after giving up 3 to Whitby in Game #3.

The Six Nations Arrows Express were defeated 8 – 6 by the Whitby Warriors in Game 3 of the Ontario Jr. A final series. Whitby now leads the series 2 games to 1. As the score would indicate it was another close game between evenly matched teams. The difference in the game proved to be special teams play as Whitby scored 3 short-handed goals including one when they were two men short. Once again as was the case in Game 1 of the series the Arrows Express could not get their offense on track managing only one goal in over 33 minutes.
Whitby led 4 – 2 after the 1st period but the Arrows Express fought back to take their only lead of the game 5 – 4 lead early in the 2nd period. The Warriors then scored 4 straight goals to take an 8 – 5 lead into the 3rd period. The Arrows Express killed off a penalty at the start of the 3rd period and did manage to score the only goal of the period but were unable to capitalize on the other scoring chances they had. The four busloads of Arrows fans came away from Whitby disappointed and hope to cheer the Arrows Express onto their 12th straight victory at home in Game 4.

GAME PLAYED AT Whitby
SIX NATIONS ARROWS 5
WHITBY WARRIORS 7
The Six Nations Arrows Express got out to a fast start building a 4 – 0 lead by the 5 minute mark of the 1st period but were unable to keep up the offense and ended up losing 7 – 5 to the Whitby Warriors in Game 1 of the Ontario final series. Whitby closed the gap to 4 – 3 by the end of the period and tied the game early in the 2nd period. The Arrows Express scored what proved to be their last goal of the game at the 7 minute mark of the 2nd period to take 5 - 4 lead but the Warriors came back with two of their own to take a 6 – 5 lead into the 3rd period. Whitby scored the lone goal of the 3rd period with :39 seconds remaining in the game to take the 7 – 5 victory.
After the quick start led by Brett Bucktooth with 1 goal and 3 assists the Arrows Express offense sputtered for the rest of the game. Also the Arrows Express defence was spread out by Whitby and this allowed the Warriors to get plenty of quality scoring chances. Ben VanEvery was replaced by Grant Crawley after Whitby’s 6th goal and Grant played a solid game allowing only one goal late in the game and giving the Arrows Express a chance to get the equalizer that never happened.
After playing nine very solid team efforts in the first two rounds of the play-offs, this effort in Whitby was the most lacklustre game the Arrows Express have had in the play-offs. They get a chance to re-group quickly as Game #2 in the series goes tonight (Wed Aug. 11/04) @ 8 PM in the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.

The Six Nations Arrows Express swept their semi-final series 4 games
to 0 over the 1st place Orangeville Northmen in front of their largest crowd
of the season so far at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena on Wednesday night. The

stands 2 games to 1 in favour of Whitby. The Ontario champion will go to BC
to play for Minto Cup against Burnaby, Victoria and the Alberta champion at
the end of August.

throughout the game. The Arrows Express showed their depth as the leading

this play-off series.

As has been a pattern in the play-offs, the Arrows Express dominated the 2nd period and took a 7 – 3 lead into the 3rd period.
