GAME PLAYED AT New Westminster

SIX NATIONS ARROWS 9
VICTORIA SHAMROCKS 10

The Six Nations Arrows Express lost a heartbreaking 10 – 9 (OT) decision to the Victoria Shamrocks. The loss eliminated the Arrows Express from the 2004 Minto Cup that will see an all-BC final as the Shamrocks move on to face the Burnaby Lakers in a best 2 out of 3 series for the national Jr. A championship.

The Arrows Express were very disappointed not to make the final but can proudly say that they represented the Six Nations community and Ontario with class and distinction during their participation in the 2004 Minto Cup. The old cliché that anything can happen in a one game series rang true in this sudden death game. The Arrows played a good game but did not capitalize on their opportunities. The Shamrocks on the other hand played a much better game than when the Arrows Express faced them in the round-robin and they did capitalize on their chances. The game was a see-saw affair the whole way and neither team ever led by more than one goal including the 10 – 9 final.

Arrows Express points were scored by:

Rayce Vyse – 3 goals and 1 assist
Kent Squire – 2 goals
and 1 assist
Brett Bucktooth – 1 goal
and 3 assists
Craig Point – 1 goal
and 1 assist
Mitch Nanticoke – 1 goal
and 1 assist
Murray Porter – 1 goal

The Arrows Express would like to say one last thank you to our fans for their great support during the year and we look forward to an exciting 2005 season.

The Six Nations Arrows Express completed the round robin portion of the Minto Cup series in second place. The nine time BC Junior A champion Burnaby Lakers finished in first place and got a bye into the Minto Cup final. The Edmonton Miners finished up in fourth place and have been eliminated from the 2004 Minto Cup. The Victoria Shamrocks finished in third place and will face the Arrows Express in a one game sudden death Tuesday night at the Queen’s Park Arena in New Westminster. The winner of the sudden death game will advance to play the Burnaby Lakers for the Minto Cup commencing on Thursday September 2/04. All of the remaining games will be played at the Queen’s Park Arena.

The Arrows Express played Burnaby in game one and did come out flat for the game having had only one day to adjust to the time change after flying out after their thrilling seven game series with the Whitby Warriors. Even with the jet lag, the Arrows Express played the BC champions to a 7 – 7 tie at the end of regulation and forced the game to overtime. However, just like the first part of the game the Arrows Express came out flat in OT and Burnaby won the game after about 5 minutes of overtime. The Arrows Express player of the game and third star was goaltender Ben VanEvery.

The Arrows Express boarded a ferry on Friday morning and headed over to Victoria on Vancouver Island to prepare for game two against the Victoria Shamrocks. After an afternoon practice the Arrows Express had a chance to enjoy the scenery and old town charm of Victoria. On game day the Arrows Express were pleased to welcome Craig Point back into their line-up after having missed almost a month of action. Craig’s offensive effort resulted in a 4 point night and after a let-up in the first period, the Arrows Express defense came to life and they ended up defeating the Shamrocks by a score of 12 – 7. The Arrows Express boarded a ferry immediately after the game and returned to Coquitlam to prepare for their third and final game of the round robin.

The third game of the round robin was against the winless Edmonton Miners. The Arrows Express their best all round game since arriving in BC and ended up defeating the Miners by a score of 12 – 2.

With Monday August 30/04 being a day off from the Minto Cup schedule the Arrows Express and all their fans were invited to the Squamish/Capilano Nation for a fish fry and barbeque. The weather was great and so was the community’s hospitality for the Arrows Express and their fans. We would sincerely like to thank Rich Baker and the people who helped welcome the team into the community and the food was plentiful and delicious. The Arrows Express then traveled back to Coquitlam and had a practice at the Queen’s Park Arena in preparation for the sudden death game against Victoria.

There are more and more fans arriving from down home every day and the Arrows Express are very grateful to all the fans who have traveled so far to come and cheer them on as they strive for the Minto Cup. To all of those who can’t make it please check out the web link above and you should be able to listen the games live over the internet.
